Carbon vs Fiberglass Pickleball Paddles for Arm Comfort
Updated 2026-10-16 · Data: 82 paddles from manufacturer spec pages · Methodology
Not medical advice. The Arm Score is an editorial estimate from published manufacturer specs (see the methodology); no study has validated it, and evidence linking paddle specs to elbow injury is limited. If you have elbow pain, see a physician or physical therapist.
Fiberglass faces are usually described as softer and more flexible, with more pop; raw carbon (toray, T700, 12K and similar) as stiffer, with more spin and control. Aramid (Kevlar-type) faces sit in between in most marketing. No published study ties face material to elbow injury, so our Arm Score gives face material only 15 of 100 points: fiberglass > aramid > carbon.
The market is mostly carbon
Of 82 paddles in our data, 69 list a carbon face, 4 aramid, 4 fiberglass or glass-hybrid, and 5 don't publish a face material. Average face points: carbon 9.0, aramid 12.0, fiberglass/hybrid 14.2.

Honest takeaways
- Face material is a small lever. The top carbon paddles (87) still outscore every fiberglass paddle (best: 80) because core thickness, foam cores and weight count for more in our formula.
- If you want fiberglass, the Selkirk AMPED Control (Epic/Invikta midweight, $100, score 80) is the best-scoring option we have. The Paddletek Bantam TS-5 Pro is fiberglass but 14.3mm and 7.6 oz, scoring 60.
- KOBO's G4 14mm models pair a foam core with an aramid face (score 83).
- Prefer carbon's spin? Pair it with a thick foam core; see foam-core picks.
